Nirmalya Choudhury has been a career researcher who has a Doctorate from Technical University Berlin, post graduate diploma in Forest Maagement from IIFM Bhopal and a Masters in Economics from Calcutta University. In the past he has worked as an Associate Professor with the Centre for Water Polcy regulation and Governance in the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Tata Education and Development Trust, Council on Energy Environment and Water, Sir Ratan Tata Trust and the International Water Management Institute. In the recent years he has been working on multiple developmental challenges, vulnerability and resilience of the people residing in the recurrent flood prone areas in Ganga-Brahmaputra basin. Over the years his research has focused on diverse water governance issues, including Participatory irrigation management, sustainable hydropower development, and water and livelihoods.
